I graduated as a mechanical engineer in June 2016 and resigned from my job in November 2017 in order to start my own venture. My job as well as my experience as an entrepreneur so far has taught me a lot. Amongst the important lessons I have learnt so far, the one that I wish to summarise presently is about the mistakes .
Making mistakes is perhaps one of the most unavoidable aspects of our work, but no person (usually) errs at will. Mistakes happen. The question then becomes about our approach towards these mistakes. Mistakes - commited not only by you but also by your colleague or a subordinate.
My observation suggests that it is far easier to justify and let go of a mistake you commit as opposed to understand and forgive the same mistake committed by someone else. I realise that one wouldn't deny that the magnitude of (repercussions of) a mistake is a valid criteria of evaluation but beyond that I sometimes find it painful when people tend to judge others by the mistakes they make. For, in doing so, a possibility and the capability of a person to learn and grow is denied fundamentally.
Prsonally, I have found that putting trust in someone's abilities in face of a mistake helps one a lot. I am now curious about your views and experiences regarding this!
